Patients who dislike the level of wrinkles, facial blemishes, and uneven pigmentation of their facial skin may benefit from a chemical peel. At our San Jose area office, we create a precise chemical formula suited to your individual skin needs. You can expect a healthier glow and an improvement in the texture of your skin.
Chemical peels consist of solutions that are applied to the face, hands, and/or the neck. The applied chemical solution improves appearance and texture by causing the skin to form blisters and then to safely peel off. The new skin that is exposed after chemical peels at our San Jose area practice looks younger and more refreshed, as it has not been exposed to the sun and other damaging elements. Chemical peels have been in use for 50 years and are a highly effective method for resurfacing the skin.
Following chemical peels, the skin will look and feel as if the patient has a sunburn. Mild, superficial peeling, and then scaling, will conclude within a week. Medium or deep chemical peels will result in some swelling and the appearance of blisters; these blisters may break and peel over the course of two weeks. Some chemical peel patients at our San Jose area practice may temporarily have bandages placed over the treated skin. It is very important to stay out of the sun after chemical peels—the new skin is highly sensitive and sun damage or complications could occur with too much exposure.

Chemical peels have been performed for decades and are considered to be very safe when administered by an experienced, skilled surgeon. There is a minute risk of infection, or even more rarely, scarring. Chemical peels do cause the skin to turn red and, of course, to peel. But this is a normal and expected outcome, and it is temporary while the new skin is being revealed.
