Fat Transfer
The Cosmetic Institute welcomes fat transfer patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz and surrounding areas.

What is a Fat Transfer?
A fat transfer involves removing fat from one part of your body and then injecting it into another part to improve volume or contour. This procedure is often used to enhance the lips, cheeks or overall facial appearance. However, a fat transfer can also improve the look of the hands, buttocks or other area on your body. The Cosmetic Institute in Los Gatos, CA, is pleased to offer fat transfers to our patients throughout the region. We encourage men and women from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Campbell and elsewhere to schedule a consultation today.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Fat Transfer?
Of the patients who visit us in Los Gatos for a fat transfer, the most appropriate candidates are in good overall health and are not pregnant or breastfeeding. Fat transfers are typically performed on people between the ages of 30 and 65 who want to reverse visible signs of aging. Some of the more common reasons for the procedure include a desire to:
- Fill in deep facial creases and wrinkles
- Restore the volume of sunken areas of the face
- Add fullness to the cheeks or lips
- Create an overall younger facial appearance
How is a Fat Transfer Performed?
The fat used during this procedure is obtained from a donor site on your body, such as the hip, thighs, abdomen or lower back. Before being re-injected, it is purified and centrifuged to separate the fat from other tissues. The purified fat is then injected by a tiny needle into the target area. The entire fat transfer at our Los Gatos facility is nearly painless because it is performed under local anesthesia.
What Can I Expect After a Fat Transfer?
Because the fat has been taken from your own body, there is no risk of an allergic reaction, unlike with other cosmetic filler products. A bandage may be required on either the donor site or the injection site, depending on the amount of fat being transferred. Common side effects include some bruising, tenderness, swelling or redness at the injection sites. These side effects typically subside in about a week, and most of our Los Gatos fat transfer patients return to their daily activities immediately.
You can find more detailed information about fat transfers by meeting with the professionals at The Cosmetic Institute. We invite patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Campbell and beyond to set up a fat transfer consultation today.
