Chemical Peels

The Cosmetic Institute welcomes chemical peel patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz and surrounding areas.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Patients who dislike the wrinkles, facial blemishes and uneven pigmentation of their facial skin may benefit from a chemical peel at The Cosmetic Institute in Los Gatos. Chemical peels have been in use for 50 years and are a highly effective method for resurfacing the skin. Dr. Howard S. Sutkin and his staff are pleased to offer this treatment as one of our skin rejuvenation options. We encourage men and women from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Campbell and beyond to schedule a chemical peel consultation today.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

If you are unhappy with the way your skin looks, then a chemical peel may be a good choice for you. Most of our chemical peel patients in Los Gatos are bothered by the following:
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scaly patches and rough skin
  • Brown marks, freckles and skin pigmentation
  • Age and liver spots (lentigines)
  • Sun-damaged skin on the face or on bald scalp skin
  • Acne and acne scars

How is a Chemical Peel Administered?

Chemical peels are a skin-resurfacing technique consisting of solutions that are applied to the face, hands and/or neck. The procedure removes the upper layers of your skin to reveal a new layer, effectively eliminating or reducing lines, wrinkles and scarring. This exfoliation accelerates the removal of dead skin cells and promotes new cell growth.

When you undergo a chemical peel with us in Los Gatos, we create a precise formula suited to your individual needs. The new skin that is exposed looks younger and more refreshed with a healthier glow and an improvement in texture.

What Can I Expect After a Chemical Peel?

Following a chemical peel, your skin will look and feel "sunburned." There will be mild, superficial peeling and then scaling, all of which will conclude within a week. For more intensive chemical peels, there will be some swelling and the appearance of blisters, which may break and peel over the course of two weeks. Some of our chemical peel patients in Los Gatos have bandages temporarily placed over the treated skin.

It is very important to stay out of the sun after a chemical peel because the new skin is highly sensitive. Sun damage or complications could occur with too much exposure.

Chemical peels are considered to be very safe when administered by an experienced, skilled surgeon like Dr. Sutkin. There is a minute risk of infection and, even more rarely, scarring. Chemical peels do cause the skin to turn red and, of course, to peel. But this is a normal and expected outcome, and it is temporary while the new skin is being revealed.

Because each individual case varies, it is best to discuss your needs and expectations with the professionals at The Cosmetic Institute. Our chemical peels have helped patients throughout Los Gatos and further afield, such as Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and Campbell. Please schedule a consultation today and learn more about the advantages of a chemical peel and how the procedure can help rejuvenate your skin.
