Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
The Cosmetic Institute welcomes arm lift patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, Santa Cruz and surrounding areas.

What is an Arm Lift?
Many men and women lose definition in their arms as they grow older. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, can get rid of hanging upper arm skin that is often referred to as "bat wings." The Cosmetic Institute in Los Gatos, CA, offers arm lifts so individuals can remove excess skin that makes it embarrassing to wear sleeveless shirts or other revealing clothing. By reshaping the upper arm, Dr. Howard S. Sutkin creates smoother, more natural contours and a more fit appearance for his patients. His arm lift expertise has helped various men and women from in and around Los Gatos, including patients from San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and Campbell.

Am I Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?
Ideal brachioplasty patients are in overall good health and at or near their ideal weight. Of the people who come into our Los Gatos office for an arm lift, the majority are men and women who have had significant weight loss. This kind of drop in pounds can often leave loose, hanging skin on the upper arms. Another influence on your arms is the natural aging process. As time passes, your skin loses elasticity, diminishes in tone and begins to droop, no matter how much you exercise. An arm lift can restore firmness and create a sleeker, less-embarrassing profile for your arms.
How is an Arm Lift Performed?
The extent of your arm lift will depend on the amount and location of the excess skin. If most of the hanging skin is within 2 inches of your armpit, Dr. Sutkin may perform a "mini arm tuck," or axillary brachioplasty. This procedure requires a crescent-shaped incision in the armpit. If the extraneous skin extends from your armpit to your elbow, as is more common, it is removed with a standard arm lift procedure. The full brachioplasty requires an incision extending the length of your upper arm, usually placed on the inner arm so it is not visible when your arms are at the sides. The incision may be curved to minimize scarring.
When the incision has been made, Dr. Sutkin removes excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat. In some cases, he may use liposuction to add contour. Once the extraneous tissues are gone, the remaining skin is brought together and sutured closed.
What Can I Expect After an Arm Lift?
Once your Los Gatos brachioplasty is completed, a compression garment will be applied to reduce swelling and support the tissues during the healing process. You should keep your arm elevated as much as possible. Some swelling, bruising and tenderness can be expected. The compression garment should be worn for several weeks, and strenuous activities should be avoided. Limited lifting is important during the recovery process. Although initial improvements will be visible immediately, the full results of an arm lift will be seen in about three months, once residual swelling has subsided.
What is the Cost of an Arm Lift in Los Gatos?
Like most plastic surgery, Los Gatos arm lift prices vary depending on the extent of the procedure.
